HOW would you like to sit down to a lunch of Chinese Pork Bun, German pretzels, Japanese Chicken Teriyaki Donburi with Italian pasta and American style pizza, then wind up with French crepe and Western cookies enjoyed with a cup of freshly brewed coffee?
At Shangri-La Plaza’s GourmetFest, a four-day culinary event that’s ongoing until Sunday (October 21, 201, you can actually have as wide a feast as you want. The Grand Atrium of the posh mall has been transformed into a hawker center, food park or night market, with picnic-style wooden tables and benches in the center, surrounded by food stalls put up by participating restaurants from the Main Wing and the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza.
Mall-goers get to experience a feast of delicious eats offered at special prizes, representing different cuisines from all around the world.
Asian flavors come alive with Akira and SumoSam (Japanese), Zao (Vietnamese), Arya (Persian), Thai BBQ (Thai), Ganso Shabuway, and Shi Lin (Chinese). Blow Torched Maki and California Roll, Chicken Teriyaki Donburi and Beef Misono Donburi, Pomelo Salad, Sambusse, Pad Thai, Shabu-Shabu or Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings, anyone?
All-American offerings are a-plenty with Kettle (and its famous Buttermilk Fried Chicken with honey glazed cornbread), Tender Bob’s (steaks, ribs and burgers), Pepi Cubano (unique Cubano sandwiches), and California Pizza Kitchen (pizza with an American twist).
From Europe comes Brotzeit (German), Pasto (Italian), Wobbly Pan (Spanish bistro food, including tapas and paella), Balboa (American dining with Italian cuisine).
Also worth checking out are Red Crab (crab and other seafood dishes), Epicurious (combination of savory fares and sweet treats), Pepper Lunch (affordable steak and seafood meals).
For dessert, do not miss Paper Moon’s Mille Crepe Cake and Chocolate Cheesecake Cookies, and La Creperie’s famous crepes, which are perfect when paired with a cup of freshly brewed coffee from Figaro or Bo’s Coffee Primo.
“We’re delighted to host the GourmetFest once again,” says Shangri-La Plaza’s executive vice president and general manager Lala Fojas, who led the formal opening ceremonies in the evening of October 17.
The opening rites doubled as press launch, dry run and food tasting.
As part of this year’s GourmetFest, live demos and workshops shall be conducted by some of the top chefs in the country, including Chefs Sandy Daza and Robby Goco, as well as Wobbly Pan’s very own Chef Rolando de Gracia.
With only two more days to enjoy GourmetFest, there are nevertheless other chances to enjoy Shangri-La Plaza’s brand of gastronomic treats.
