Macapuno Banana

THE weather is crazy these days! If it isn’t raining, it’s very very hot. It’s still as hot as summer can get. But just recently, Magnolia Ice Cream introduced a whole new line of ice cream to help Filipinos beat the summer heat. It’s called the Best of the Philippines, and it comes in six delicious and refreshing local flavors that promote the tourist spots and festivals of Laguna, Batangas, Guimaras and Baguio: Macapuno Banana and Macapuno Langka representing the province of Laguna, Coffee Crumble and Tsokolate Tablea for the province of Batangas, Mangoes and Cream to give emphasis to the sweet mangoes of Guimaras, and Ube Keso to highlight the famous Ube Halaya of Good Shepherd in Baguio.

Macapuno Langka

Conceived to complement the It’s More Fun in the Philippines campaign of the Department of Tourism (DOT), Magnolia Ice Cream’s Best of the Philippines flavors were introduced in a big reveal held over lunch at the Executive Dining Room of San Miguel Corporation’s Head Office in the presence of trade partners and media people. Leading the launch were San Miguel Pure Foods Co. Inc. president Francisco Alejo III, Magnolia Inc. general manager Mayo Alcon, Magnolia Ice Cream group product manager Jen Chan and marketing manager Pinky Custodio. Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez was guest of honor, and Magnolia’s celebrity brand ambassador Elmo Magalona performed during the launch program.

Coffee Crumble

Finally, lovely ladies dressed in the vibrant fiesta colors of the Philippines brought out Magnolia Ice Cream’s Best of the Philippines flavors, which came in eye-catchingly designed 1.5-liter tubs. The tubwrap of Laguna’s Macapuno Banana and Macapuno Langka flavors feature tourist spots that can be found in the province, such as the Rizal Shrine, Hidden Valley, Pagsanjan Falls, St. Peter Alcantara Church and Mt. Makiling as well as the Anakalang Festival and Luisiana Pandan Festival. Batangas’ Coffee Crumble and Tsokolate Tablea tubwrap highlights the Mt. Carmel Church in Lipa City, Taal Park, Calaruega Church, Jaybanga Lobo, Taal Volcano, Ambon-Ambon Falls, Malabrigo Lighthouse, Fantasy World, Mt. Malarayat, Acuatico San Juan Laiya and Cintal Coritos Garden Resort as well as the Ala Eh Festival. The respective tubwraps of Guimaras’ Mangoes and Cream and Baguio’s Ube Keso similarly put emphasis on the famous products of the provinces that they represent.

Tsokolate Tablea

All Best of the Philippines flavors were served to the guests to give them a taste of the new flavors, and everyone instantly had their favorites while others struggled with which flavor they liked best because everything was so good – especially if you are able to sit back, relax and really enjoy each flavor at a leisurely pace. As for me, I find Mangoes and Cream to be refreshing, both Macapuno Banana and Macapuno Langka are light and guilt-free, Ube Keso reminds me of my late dad because ube was his favorite and he loved ice cream, and Coffee Crumble and Tsokolate Tableaare flavors that I’d have if I want stronger flavors to perk me up.

Mangoes and Cream

Aside from the Best of the Philippines flavors, Magnolia Ice Cream is now also introducing two new additions to its Frozen Delights line: Cookie Monster, a four-way choco-monstrous ice cream sensation in a bar; and Fizz, a mix of rootbeer and vanilla ice cream on a stick.
Cookie Monster is a chocolate lover’s delight, as it is chocolate ice cream wrapped in chocolate coating studded with chocolate cereal balls and with rich chocolate fudge inside the bar. It’s luxuriously delicious and, at P18 retail in supermarkets and convenience stores, it can surely give a more expensive imported chocolate-coated ice cream bar a run for its money.

Ube Keso

Fizz is a rootbeer float on a stick. It’s a rootbeer-flavored ice lolly with vanilla ice cream filling that retails at P15 and is also available in supermarkets and convenience stores. “This is the first time we are combining rootbeer with vanilla in one ice cream stick, very much like the famous drink that we enjoy. We are sure rootbeer lovers would appreciate this fusion with goodness of vanilla ice cream in a frozen delight,” says Magnolia Inc. GM Mayo Alcon.

What’s more: As if these were not enough, Magnolia Ice Cream is also introducing three new Double Gold Edition flavors in awesome combinations of Double Dutch/Choco Chip Cookie Dough, Ube Keso/Creamy Halo-Halo, and Cookies & Cream/Rocky Road.

What more can you ask for to help you beat the heat of the remaining days of summer?
