IT’S Mooncake season once again, as Asian countries and Chinese communities all over the world celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, which falls on October 1 this year, it is also known as the Mooncake Festival in the Philippines because the mooncake is at the center of the celebration.
During this time, mooncakes abound. Some are a little bit expensive; others more affordable. Some are bigger; others are bite sized. Some are imported brands; others are locally made. They come in different variants so people can choose according to their own preferences.
One of the more premium brands, Hong Kong MX Mooncakes, made and directly imported from Hong Kong (where the brand has earned many awards and distinctions), is now available in Manila for the second year in a row. It returns to Manila this mooncake season with its classic lineup and brand new variants via a pop-up store in SM Mall of Asia (Level 1, G/F, Main Mall, in front of Watsons) and through official online channels (e-commerce giants Lazada and Shopee as well as trusted food delivery apps FoodPanda and GrabMart) until October 4, 2020.
Beloved favorites, including White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with 2 Egg Yolks and the Lava Mooncake Series, are back, while making their debut are exciting new flavors, such as the Lava Duet (combining custard and chocolate variants) and the Delightful Moon repack with premium variations and the new Lava Chocolate filling. The Lava Custard Mooncake makes use of the unique ‘double-bake’ technique to produce the one-of-a-kind texture and flavor of the aromatic and smooth silky filling seeping out from its core. Check out the new Lava Duet Mooncake set, which includes two flavors—the signature Lava Custard and the delectable Lava Chocolate—coming in a box of eight. The Custard Twins Mooncake is also back, with both the classic and the lava variants, in a new packaging inspired by the auspicious rabbit.
Also making a Philippine comeback are Hong Kong MX Mooncakes’ flagship products—White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with 2 Egg Yolks and Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with 2 Egg Yolks—in a new gift box packaging that adds a layer of sophistication and magnificence for these classics.
Hong Kong MX Mooncakes will be offering the specially created Low Sugar Mooncake Series so that even individuals with low sugar food requirement can enjoy a good bite. The Low Sugar White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk comes in boxes of six.
The legacy continues in curated flavors continues with the return of the Delightful Moon Assorted Mooncake in a graceful and elegant gift box, which carries three classic and lava mooncake variants. So is the Mooncake Exclusive Selection, which is filled with eight iconic flavors that make use of Xianglian lotus seeds for the lotus seed paste varieties and the golden-hued and translucent lotus seed paste.
